CAS (Creativity, Action, Service)

CAS (an acronym for Creativity, Action, Service) is used to measure the amount of extracurricular activities in the form of "CAS hours". CAS is used to encourage students to go beyond academic pursuits and experience life outside school. CAS is a mandatory aspect of the IB Diploma program, however, extracurricular activities are an important part of college applications  even if one were not to join the IB program. CREATIVITY (initiative in creative activity)

ACTION (participation in sports)

SERVICE (social work or community service)

REQUIREMENTS in the IB Diploma: Each Diploma candidate must complete a minimum of 150 hours of CAS related activities over the period of the IB course. A candidate must complete at least 50 hours in each group: Creativity, Action, and Service. The hours of work completed are documented by the school using official forms (CAS/AEF Forms) which are submitted to the IBO by January of the final year of the IB course. The IB Diploma is only awarded only upon successful completion of CAS.
